Tamil Diaspora Youth vow solidarity with Kurds against global injustices

The younger generation of Eezham Tamil Diaspora has expressed solidarity with the Kurds, condemning the Turkish State atrocities and the global injustices that criminalize Kurdish resistance. The U.S., NATO, and E.U. made evident, with the exclusion of the PYD from the UN hosted Syria-talks in Geneva in February, their brazen support of their regional ally Turkey, while it is intensifying its six month long war against the Kurdish population of Northern Kurdistan (Bakur). The Western media have also failed the Kurds by avoiding to cover the crimes against the Kurds. Amidst global silence on the ongoing massacres of Kurds, voices of solidarity have emerged from Tamils in the form of a collective response through the opinion platform Tamil Diaspora Youth Network and the Tamil Youth Organisation (TYO) in UK taking part in a national protest on Sunday.
Turkey has also intensified its attacks against the YPJ/YPG in Western Kurdistan (Rojava) and inside northern Syria since last month.
The U.S axis of powers that had hitherto provided nominal military support to the Kurds after the YPG/YPJ emerged as the most powerful non-state military-politico power in Syria and the most effective force fighting the ISIS, have now betrayed the Kurds in the face of their geo-political interests and the considerations of their regional allies, said Kurdish activists who took part in the national protest held in UK.

national demonstration was organised in UK under the slogan ‘Break The
Silence’ on Sunday, as brutal attacks against Kurds remained unreported
in the UK press. “Stop Turkeys War on the Kurds” was the demand of the
protesters who urged the UK govt puts pressure on Turkey to stop these
attacks and return to the negotiations for a peaceful settlement with
the Kurdish Movement began with the PKK.
Despite the manoeuvres of global and regional powers alike, whether in rivalry or in strategic partnerships, a recurrent theme of concern for powers regarding the middle-East has been how to weaken, contain or destroy sovereign Kurdish military-politico power.
Amidst these challenges, the Kurdish people have consistently mobilized amongst themselves for themselves as well as for other peoples of the region against global injustices, geopolitical schemes and state oppression through the popular endorsement of the armed struggles in north Kurdistan (Bakur) and in western Kurdistan (Rojava) spearheaded by the PKK and the PYD.
The Eelam Tamil and Kurdish revolutionary struggles for national liberation traces their development to the activities of both the movements and the people in their homeland as well as those in the then emerging and now established diaspora communities.
Krish Sabapathy, an activist from
Tamil Youth Organisation in UK (TYO-UK), who addressed the national
protest held in UK on Sunday said that Eezham Tamils had witnessed how
genocides were being committed in the modern age. Such genocides could
be “made possible only with the explicit and implicit assistance of
several states and the premeditated silence of the international media,”
he said.
“We demand the international media to do their job ‘break the silence’ and speak for the victims. Those who fail to oppose and stand in solidarity with Kurds against this coordinated oppression will be on the wrong side of history,” Krish Sabathy said.
In the meantime, a statement issued by the Tamil Diaspora Youth Network, which is an opinion platform of the second generation youth across the globe, signed by five activists and writers from Australia, Canada, Switzerland and Norway, noted that “[t]he Kurds despite the anti-people geo-political manoeuvres of empires and states of the past, has shown the uttermost resilience and fortitude in reorganizing themselves in maintaining the national spirit of resistance and that of an proud heritage to safeguard their people and their national existence through struggle.”
The statement further said: “Hailing from these experiences of systematic genocide, and global injustice, axed on the very same imperialist and anti-people geo-politics pursued by world establishment which strive to dissect the self-determination and sovereignty of independent people while propping or perpetuating undemocratic states such as Sri Lanka and Turkey, the Tamils and Kurds are waging their struggle for liberation, security and equality on the same globally extant terrain and order.”

In spite of clandestine and informal interaction and organic solidarity between the Kurds and Tamils during the course of the past two or three decades in particularly among the Diaspora communities, there is a lot more to do to sustain the mode of solidarity between the two oppressed peoples.
In the midst of historic moments of global injustices being perpetuated towards facilitating oppressor states to pursue genocidal solutions to oppressed nations and people’s righteous struggle for sovereignty and self-determination, principled solidarity between the oppressed is imperative to establish an alternative and representative global paradigm of internationalism.
