Tamils should conceive alternative investigations: rights activists in Batticaloa

[TamilNet, Friday, 12 February 2016, 23:45 GMT]
Not a single person has been arrested by the Colombo government despite 450 persons giving testimony in the district of Batticaloa at the three sittings held so far by the Presidential Commission to Investigate into Complaints regarding Missing Persons (PCICMP), one under Rajapaksa regime and two sittings under the present Sirisena - Wickrasinghe regime, Tamil rights activists in Batticaloa told TamilNet on Friday. The modus operandi of the SL commissions of the past and present, including the new ones that are being launched by the current regime incorporating Tamil ‘collaborators’ from Batticaloa and Jaffna, is nothing new to Eezham Tamils. Global Tamils should conceive universal models of justice without getting locked into the so-called Transnational Justice advocates coming through Colombo, the activists further said.

The SL Commissions have been tasked with equating Sinhala and Tamil losses to an equal extent according to the instructions from the outside forces that want to recognise the genocidal Sinhala military as a ‘Lascarine’ military in the Indian Ocean Region. Tamils are not even recognised as victims.

“In a way, this is similar to how the nordic SLMM peace monitors were steered by the so-called Tokyo Co-Chair donors during the ceasefire to produce statistics of violations to fit for their agenda,” one of the leading rights activist from Batticaloa said.

In Batticaloa district alone, more than 350 persons have been abducted and reported missing after the SL military brought the entire district under its control.

More than 2,500 persons have been reported missing between 1990 and 2009.

The PCICMP itself has admitted that it received around 2,200 complaints from the district.

Tamils living around the globe should create their own mechanism for recording and seeking justice to the crimes in the past and the presence, the rights activists from Batticaloa said.

Those among the Tamils who collaborate with the SL Commissions should timely expose the designs of the external powers, the activists said naming the academics from the East and North taking part in the advisory panels of domestic mechanisms designed by Colombo government and the NGOs that receive Western funds.
