Ex-paramilitary operative harasses Koappaave’li villagers in Batticaloa

Former Karuna group paramilitary spokesperson Asad Moulana has been deployed to seize lands from resettled Tamil villagers at Koappaave’li village, situated on Chengkaladi – Badulla Road in Ea’raavoor-pattu DS division, complains Jeyendiran Pathmanathan, the secretary of the Rural Development Society (RDS) of the village. The former paramilitary operative, now working with SL State Minister of Rehabilitation and Resettlement M. L. A. M. Hizbullah, has already seized 3 acres of permit lands through deceiving a villager.

The leaders of the RDS, agricultural society and the board members of Pi'l'laiyaar temple in the village, opposing the transfer of lands, are being harassed by the ex-paramilitary operative, according to Mr Jeyendran.

The permit lands cannot be transferred through sales. Even if the lands are acquired for public purposes, the villagers in possession of such permit lands should be given at least 1 acre of lands, civil sources at Batticaloa District Secretariat said.

The intelligence wing of the occupying Sinhala military has deployed Mr Moulana to divide the Tamil-speaking people in the East, the Tamil villagers complain.
