Hindutva-Buddhist ‘pincer mechanism’ to compete hybrid mechanism

Hindutva-Buddhist ‘pincer mechanism’ to compete hybrid mechanism

[TamilNet, Friday, 18 September 2015, 17:52 GMT]
While Tamils are busy in comprehending and extricating themselves from the sophisticated web of ‘hybrid mechanism’ cast on them by Washington and Washington-led UN, New Delhi in its own crude way plans a bilateral ‘pincer mechanism’ along with Colombo, as could be seen from Ranil’s visit to New Delhi. Even though the imperialist aims are different, both ‘mechanisms’ follow the same policy of denying justice to the national question of Eezham Tamils to the genocidal satisfaction of the Sinhala-Buddhist State; the same strategy of absolving Colombo as well as themselves, and the same tactics of wooing Colombo in which only the shades vary, commented Tamil activists for alternative politics in the island.

The latest show is Hindutva Narendra Modi proclaiming Buddha as the chief master of Hinduism and boosting the genocidal brand of Sinhala Buddhism by celebrating Anagarika Dharmapala who saw Eezham Tamils as ‘Para Dema’las’ – all the while negotiating with Ranil for Palk Bay land bridge for closer ties with Colombo, choosing a time the island is being discussed and going to be voted at Geneva.

"This quality of Hinduism in India was a product of many great spiritual masters and chief among them was Buddha. And this is what sustains the secular character of India," New Delhi Prime Minister Narendra Modi was saying at Bodh Gaya, as cited by The Times of India on Thursday.

The occasion was a convention at Bodh Gaya last month, held by Vivekananda International Foundation and Tokyo Foundation. The former is an outfit created some years ago by the current National Security Advisor of New Delhi.

The Anagarika Dharmapala 150 Years celebrations in India will be inaugurated on October 8, by genocidal Sri Lanka’s President, Maithripala Sirisena accompanied by 150 Sinhala Buddhist monks.

The October celebrations for Anagarika Dharmapala will coincide with the Fourth Buddhist Forum in China, also to be held in October, The Times of India said, adding that in the past few years, India has made a determined push to reclaim Buddhism as its own, after China, seemingly godless, hosted three Global Buddhist Forums in 2006, 2009 and 2012.

There shouldn’t be any misunderstanding that the theme belongs to Hindutva BJP alone. The Marxist-bent, Congress-supporting Romila Thaper also was harping on the same Buddhist theme when she rushed to give recognition to the ‘Sri Lankan’ State, shortly after the genocidal onslaught on Eezham Tamils. Perhaps the Buddhist theme is something special for New Delhi when it comes to the question of Eezham Tamils.

The Palk Bay bridge, which New Delhi and its media now prefer to call ‘Ram’ Sethu, and similar projects such as electricity link of Madurai with Anuradhapura etc., focus on strengthening the Colombo-centric system’s genocidal grip over the island.

In conceiving new strategies of struggle, Tamils in Tamil Nadu and all over the world have to carefully peruse how the pincer mechanism and the hybrid mechanism operates in parallel, in a situation of their statelessness or in a situation of states being used in the game of ‘global monopoly’.

Vivekananda and Dharmapala would be highlighted as role models if they could fit into ideas of imperialism. Even Adi Sankara, though Kerala-born, may come in, as his ideology was elitist and medium was Sanskrit. But a Ramanuja of the Aiyankaars, who insisted on equal status to Tamil or a Basavanna of the Veera Saivas who spoke in Kannada, won’t fit in as they revolted against elitist religious imperialism in the region.

Anagarika Dharmapala could be felicitated but M.M. Kalburgi should be killed.

Rather than the blah blah on Hindu-Buddhist foreign policy, New Delhi could be able to come closer to the masses in the island in a noble and real secular way by openly apologising for the killings and human rights violations that took place in the island owing to its past foreign policies. By doing so, it can set an example to the competing USA and could even prove better than the Congress, the Tamil activists for alternative politics in the island said.
