Ex-militant parties in TNA resolve to oppose US move on domestic mechanism

[TamilNet, Monday, 31 August 2015, 09:44 GMT]
Three of the four ex-militant parties comprising the Tamil National Alliance have decided to sharply oppose the US move, informed sources within the TNA told TamilNet on Sunday. A consensus has already been achieved between the three parties (EPRLF, TELO and PLOTE) on Sunday with regards to opposing the domestic mechanism and in demanding international investigations. However, on ITAK's reluctance in making democratic decisions within the TNA, the three ex-militant parties would demand a structural solution within the TNA before considering other options, an EPRLF source told TamilNet Monday noon.

In the meantime, a group of Tamil activists in North are engaged in a process of bringing together TELO, EPRLF (Suresh-wing) with a political party having longer legacy than that of the ITAK, the sources further revealed.

The EPRLF and TELO are close to an understanding on future political formula and have been urged to proclaim their stand in written form.

The parties are also urged to bring forth the PLOTE group, a late joiner in the TNA alliance, through clarifying its policy in written form to the public, the sources further told TamilNet on Sunday.

So far, at least 6 Tamil National Alliance parliamentarians have agreed in principle to convey their stand to the United Nations in opposing the domestic investigation mechanism proposed by the USA, the sources further revealed on Monday.

Further details on the discourse remain classified for the time being.
