SL military fabricates evidences to distort Mannaar assassination, say residents

Ve’l’laangku’lam residents on Saturday denied Sri Lankan police reports that sought to fabricate evidence and distort the facts about Nakuleswaran, who was assassinated on Wednesday. The Sri Lankan military intelligence and the SL police have been trying to fabricate a story that the ex-LTTE member and former Tamil Eelam policeman Nakuleswaran was slain due to personal grudges, the residents said. On Friday, the Sri Lankan police claimed that two T-56 rifles had been located and four persons involved in a gang had been detained. In the meantime, Ilangkai Thamizh Arasuk Kadchi (ITAK) youth wing secretary S.V. Sivakaran in Mannaar told TamilNet that Mr Nakuleswaran was not an active supporter or member of the Tamil National Alliance (TNA).
The father of two, released from the SL military custody in 2012 has only been an active social worker among the resettling people at rural level, the residents at Ve’l’laangku’lam told TamilNet.
Ve’l’laang-ku’lam is situated 45 km north of Mannaar city in the northern part of Mannaar district, bordering Ki’linochchi district.
Kavitha Nakuleswaran, the wife of the slain ex-LTTE member, has already stated that her husband had no known enemies to the family. But, two men had visited their hut a few days before the incident, asking for Nakuleswaran. The unfamiliar men had conversed in an angry tone with her mother, she said.
The SL military has attempted to fabricate “T-56 evidences” and detention of paramilitary personalities earlier in Jaffna following brutal slayings.
In the meantime, the assassination of Krishnasamy Nakuleswaran, who had returned to civilian life after his release from the SL military ‘rehabilitation’ has forced several ex-LTTE members to seek refuge underground to ensure their security from SL military intelligence unit personnel roaming in civil.
Tension and fear prevail among Tamil youths and the rehabilitated cadres and former members of the LTTE due to the increased deployment of SL military patrol in the North and East to block any attempt by Tamils to observe Hero’s Day on 27 November.
The Jaffna University Teachers Association (JUTA) has accused the SL military for creating tension and fear among the undergrads by posting SLA soldiers around the outer complex of the university in large numbers.
Normalcy could be resumed only after the removal of SLA soldiers from the university area, the JUTA statement said adding that the military deployment was causing harassment not only to the students but the entire university and the public.
Following the OHCHR Investigation on Sri Lanka (OISL), even Tamil lawyers, based in Colombo are being monitored by the SL military. Phone conversations are being tapped, the sources in Colombo said.
On Tuesday, Northern Provincial Councillor and the wife of the missing political leader Ezhilan of the LTTE, Ms Ananthy Sasitharan, was followed by a group of alleged intelligence personnel of the SL military, when she came out of the Switzerland Embassy in Colombo. She had to seek refuge at a Saiva temple at Bambalapitiya and proceed to the temporary residence where another NPC councillor, Mr M.K. Shivajilingam, was staying in Colombo.
“The Intelligence unit of the Sri Lanka Army is not leaving anyone, but monitoring everyone who works for the welfare of the Tamil community. Therefore, it is meaningless to say that the democracy is flourishing in Sri Lanka,” TNA parliamentarian Suresh Premachandran said after the reports of increased harassment by the SL military intelligence personnel.
